(This documentation pertains to TMS v1.3 or higher)
This document describes the different Rule Actions which
are currently available in TMS and how to use them.
Rule Actions
Rule Actions are used to perform actions on incoming
messages which have matched all Rule Match Conditions. For an explanation on
what the Rule Match Conditions are please see the Rule Match Conditions
documentation first.
When an incoming text message matches all Rule Match
Conditions specified it will be considered a “matched message” of that rule. TMS
will execute all actions of that rule for any matched message.
The actions are performed in the background, with no user
interaction, and are performed in no particular order and in no guaranteed time
span, though most actions are performed very quickly. TMS has several mechanisms
in place to insure your device performance is unaffected by these actions and
does not block further incoming messages from being received, even if you are
“bombarded” with incoming text messages.
Here is a list of currently available Actions and how to
use them:
Reply with another Message:
·
Will reply to the matched text message with
another text message you specify.
Forward Message via E-Mail
·
Will forward the matched text message via E-Mail.
The e-mail will contain the Sender’s Name and Phone Number, the time the message
was received, and the message contents.
·
Note: A supported E-Mail account must be properly
setup on your device before using this action.
Forward Message via SMS
·
Will forward the matched message via SMS to
another recipient. You should enter the recipient’s phone number to forward the
message to when asked to.
Play a custom SMS RingTone
·
Plays a custom SMS Ring Tone when a matched
message is received.
·
Note: The Full path of the ringtone must be
specified. To help pick a ring tone, a form will pop-up and list the sound files
found in the following directories:
\Windows, \Windows\Rings, or \My Documents\My RingTones
Reply with my GPS Location
·
When a message is matched, TMS will attempt to
gather the current location coordinates using the GPS on the device (if one
exists) and reply to the message with another SMS containing the
Latitude/Longitude retrieved and a link to Google maps.
·
Note: The reply can take up to 2 minutes to
provide appropriate time for the GPS to warm up. Subsequent replies are much
faster.
·
Also note that this only works if the user has a
clear line of sight to GPS Satellites, meaning, the user is outside (or, say, in
a car).
Delete Message
·
Matched messages will be deleted and “ignored”.
·
Note: Use this action very carefully, as you will
NOT know that a message was deleted because the device will NOT alert you, make
a sound, or even light up, it will be as if you actually never got the message.
·
Note: In reality you did get the message, just
never saw it, so your bill will reflect the same. And usual carrier charges
still apply.
Stop Processing More Rules
·
This is a special action which tells TMS to stop
processing any further rules which match the message. This does NOT prevent
other actions within this rule to stop, it prevents rules (who are lower in the
list) from processing.
·
One should pay close attention to where a rule
with this action is on the list of rules (in the main screen). This prevents
rules lower than it from running, but it has no effects on rules above it. Rule
hierarchy can be modified by using the “Move Up”, “Move Down”, “Move To Top” and
“Move To Bottom” menu actions from the mains TMS screen.
